Crithidia luciliae

SUBSTRATE: Crithidia luciliae

PATTERN: Native DNA ( nDNA)
DESCRIPTION: These antibodies produce staining of the kinetoplast of Crithidia luciliae organism. The kinetoplast is a giant mitochondrion containing kinetoplast circular DNA, referred to as double-stranded DNA ( dsDNA) and native DNA ( nDNA), which is relatively free of other nuclear antigens. The kinetoplast is smaller and brighter than the accompanying nucleus.

CLINICAL
RELEVANCE:
nDNA are highly specific for systemic lupus erthematosus (SLE). The frequency and titer of nDNA antibodies fluctuate with activity and tend to disappear with immunosuppression and during remission. There is good correlation between disease activity and nDNA antibody levels.
