Phospholipid Antibodies (APL)

The presence of anti-phospholipid antibodies (APL) helps to identify patients at risk for anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome. The APL syndrome may involve venous and/or arterial thrombosis, thrombocytopenia and recurrent fetal loss. High levels of anti-cardiolipin antibodies are associated with thrombosis, fetal loss and thrombocytopenia.

A serum cofactor is needed for the detection of ACA. This cofactor is identified as a 50 kD protein known as ß2-glycoprotein 1 (ß2-GP1). IMMCO kit ensures the quality of the test by making use of the serum cofactor in the APL assay.
