Ribosomal P Antibodies & Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) Antibodies

In patients with psychotic SLE, a group of autoantibodies are targeted against the ribosomal phosphoproteins, called P0 (38kD), P1 (19kD) and P2 (17kD). Preceding the onset of psychotic episodes in patients, a selective elevation of anti-Ribosomal P antibodies has been observed. Similarly, anti-Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) antibodies also occur in SLE and the frequency may vary from 17-80%. In addition, a correlation between anti-RNA antibodies and disease activity has been reported. Both antibodies may coexist in a significant number of patients with collagen-vascular disorders.
